+Steve Solomon and Erica Reinheimer in their book //The Intelligent Gardeneer// are promoting remineralization of garden soil. Basically their approach assumes that there is an optimal level of each of about a dozen minerals and that by soil testing and applying their formulas I can greatly improve my soil and grow nutrient-dense vegetables in it. I have a number of reservations about the practicality of their approach, but I'm going to give it my best shot in 2015. Since I began gardening seriously I have emphasized increasing soil fertility even though I didn't know much about this - accepting the persistent myth that fertility equals % organic matter. Time for this dog to learn new tricks!

+Solomon insists on application of the fertilizer and then tilling it in down to six inches. (So much for low till gardening!) See [[garden:cultivate:lotill:revisited|Low-till revisited]].
