Making a walking trail

Aerial view of pathway

Aerial view of trailA couple of years ago a neighbor asked is we had a pathway along the brush across our property to the street to the west. We knew at that time that the ground was too uneven and the grass too dense for walking.

Cutting a pathway

Mowing a pathwayBut we thought this was a good idea, so as it was convenient we mowed grasses and added topsoil thinking that someday we would have the suggested pathway.

Adding soil

Importing soilA neighbor wanted a berm on his property to be reduced and offered me the opportunity to take the soil. I readily accepted and using my tractor and the box scraper I transferred about two yards to the west part of the trail. This didn't complete the pathway, but it added to the walkaable area.

Clearing brush

Clearing the brushAs time passed the brush next to the forest reserve grew and spread onto our intended pathway, so we spend a few days clearing brush.

More mowing

Connecting the flail mower to the tractor allowed me to clear more of the grass.

More progress - August 2026

The pathway wasn't complete, but we extended it to the west with some heavey-going mowing. This area has standing water during the winter, so the grass and weeds return, but this is progress, which, of course, we must regain in following summers. The west end
